When putting together a capsule wardrobe, it's so important to pick pieces that are sustainable, long-lasting, and will add real value to your life. For me, a versatile, high-quality sweater is a must-have.

My Oliver Charles sweater, made from yak wool, is perfect for all seasons. It goes with everything and easily layers for year-round wear. It keeps me warm in the cold and cool in the heat, and its durability means it will last for a long time, saving me from having to replace it.

I think it should be labeled as "The Everyday Sweater” since it’s a piece that can be used from your wardrobe daily. This essential sweater is a gem and you can easily curate several outfits with this piece, just like I did. It’s a walk in the park, I mean, a walk in your closet!

I've been having a blast creating my 6 everyday outfits. With my trusty Oliver Charles sweater, this exercise was easy - all I had to do was mix and match a few of my other favorites with it. These included:

  • 2 solid tops
  • 2 patterned tops
  • 2 blouses/button downs
  • 1 blazer
  • 1 pair of dark-wash jeans
  • 1 pair of light-wash jeans
  • 1 pair of trousers pants
  • 1 skirt/shorts
  • 1 heavy coat
  • 1 lightweight coat
  • 2 pairs of shoes

To make it even simpler, I organize my clothes in my minimal closet so I can see everything at once. I keep my bottoms like pants on shelves where I can see them, and my skirts hung up, so they're also in plain sight.

I like to pair my gray Oliver Charles sweater with my black and neutral pieces since most of my skirts, pants, and shoes are black. And with just a handful of key pieces, like pants, a skirt, shoes, tights, a coat, a belt, and a scarf, I was able to make 6 versatile outfits that I can wear all season long. Voila!

Why Everyday Sweaters Are Ideal For Outfit Repeating

My sweater has been the perfect building block in my closet. I love how I stopped thinking about what I was going to wear because I planned in advance and defined my capsule for the season.

I wasn't sure if I could make it work with just 16 core pieces to mix and match, but I've been really happy with how it's turned out. I feel like people are always surprised when they find out how few clothes I actually own, because I've been able to make it look like I have a lot more by being creative with my outfits.

It's kind of like magic - it seems like I'm constantly buying new clothes, when really I'm just using what I have in new ways, It seems like I keep shopping for more clothes when I don’t swipe my card.

The beauty of having a minimal wardrobe is that I've spent less money while continuously curating outfits from the thing I know I love to wear.
