I was surprised that the cardigan did not have buttons even though it clearly does not from the photos. I did get used to it pretty quickly. The color is absolutely gorgeous, as is the material. I can’t wait to travel with it, either. Like many, I did find the cost a little prohibitive, but my curiosity got the better of me. Overall, it’s worth supporting a small business trying to make a dent in the wall of fast fashion and ecologically problematic textile manufacturing.

The 3D knitted no seams was probably the deal maker for me. I wear an apron every day at work and one more thing rubbing on my neck or underarms is just an issues. This sweater is great I love the smoothness of the build of the sweater. I also really like a company that is willing to sell a quality garment that they will stand behind. The pledge to repair the sweater was really another thing that drew me to trying the sweater. I was more than pleased with the feel. Of the knit material it is made from. I really want more of them.

I’ve enjoyed sharing my experience with buying and receiving my SeaCell sweater. I was wondering what a sweater made of seaweed would be like and I was very pleased with the garment I received. I would recommend this sweater to anyone looking for a quality sweater that is a nice layering piece.

Love, love, love it! Getting softer with every wash. Nice neutral color - goes with everything! Jeans, dresses, shorts all look snazzier with this cardigan. Easy to dress up or dress down. AND it is SeaCell!

I gave it 4 starts instead of 5 not because of a design or materials flaw, but because it is larger than I thought it would be. Otherwise, this sweater us great for someone else looking to simplify their closet and make a commitment to high-quality pieces that will last a long time. I like wearing close-fitting, lightweight tops and layering, bc I get hot easily at work as a kindergarten teacher. The sea cell cardigan is the perfect combination for this kind of lifestyle/wardrobe. I started the challenge eager and open-minded. I’d really wanted to start with a wool sweater, but it was still hot where I live when I ordered, and I was SO eager to see one of these cool garments, that I opted for the seaweed blend, bc it would be cooler and more flexible for my adventures.
It is SO soft, the color is pleasant, and I love that there are no bulky seams. It’s the perfect weight to wear to the coast over a tank top, or a cooler morning or evening walk. As a result of the sweater being larger than I’d expected, I will probably not wear it to work as often as I’d originally hoped. It will continue to be a comfortable layer for these early fall days, and again in spring and summer, as I begin to wear tank tops again. I really enjoyed telling people that the fiber is seaweed-based! Friends were eager to touch it! I was also excited to share that because of the unique manufacturing process, it’s practically zero-waste! I look forward to trying a wool sweater next and sizing down, and wearing the heck out of it all winter! The idea of slowing down fast fashion is very appealing to me.

I love my summer cardigan! It keeps me warm but also isn’t too heavy that I can’t wear it during the summer. It goes with everything. The quality of the fabric is awesome. Feels really nice on the skin. I’m not proud to say, I live my busy life kinda chaotically at times - sometime leaving clothes on the floor / in the car / crumpled up in a gym bag, you get the idea. The Oliver Charles sweater has kept up with this busy lady! I’ve had the sweater over a month, have not washed it and have worn it frequently and it still looks and smells as good as the day I got it. I got a size large which ended up being a little roomy so maybe for my next OC sweater I’ll size down. But oversized sweater still looks cute.

I own an XS summer crew neck and tested the new summer cardigan in M. I sized up for a more flowy layering piece. It's a little thicker than the crew, which makes it feel a more substantial. It's just as soft and breathable. I packed it for my trip to San Diego and it kept me plenty warm in the cool morning after I went scuba diving in La Jolla cove and was easy to layer on and off during the warmer parts of the day as my friends and I went in and out of restaurants and walked along the beach (the seaweed cardi was right at home!). At the end of the night we went out around Little Italy and, still wearing the cardigan, I felt comfortable in my additional layer of warmth. The sweater was a perfect sustainable choice to pack. It did it all and was very low maintence. I might upgrade to the wool version for the fall/winter, but for now I'm loving the summer weight.

Each season, I take stock of my wardrobe and purchase one key piece that will last for years. This year I needed a cardigan. My summer cardigan is a perfect addition. The cut is classic. It is comfortable and easy to care for. I choose the light beige and it goes with everything. Just right for cool mornings, evenings, or overly air conditioned restaurants. Dress It up or down, it is my summer wardrobe staple. I have my eye on the yak cardigan for fall/winter in brown.

SeaCell fibers are smooth, unlike wool. The silky fibers don't irritate sensitive skin. SeaCell is efficient at moving sweat and moisture away from your body, discouraging bacteria growth that causes skin irritation.
Organic cotton is also very soft when compared to other natural materials. The fibers are very fine, ranging between 11 and 22 microns. For reference, Yak wool ranges from 14-19 microns.
Our materials, SeaCell and organic cotton, are both remarkably sustainable. We can replace plastic-based synthetic fibers with these materials; together, they are soft, abundant, and strong.
Unlike plastic polyester, SeaCell and organic cotton are made from regenerative resources and 100% biodegradable.
In addition to using 91% less water than conventionally-grown cotton, organic cotton requires 62% less energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 42%.
Further, the lack of pesticides decreases waterway pollution by 26% and the chances of acid rain by 70%.
The seaweed used to make SeaCell is a strain found in the Icelandic fjords and northern Atlantic.
Harvesting in the Icelandic fjords means there is no pollution and waste from ship traffic, so the seaweed is extremely clean and without pollutants.
Local Icelandic sea farmers gently harvest the abundant seaweed beds once every 4 years using large floating conveyor belts that remove the tops of the plants.
The harvesting process ensures that each bed can naturally regenerate without disrupting the ecosystem. Solely trimming the upper portion of the marine plant also encourages healthy growth, like cutting the split ends of our hair.
Once cut in Iceland, it’s transported to manufacturing facilities in Austria. The seaweed is entirely untreated, retaining all its natural properties.
Our sweaters are made in Brooklyn, New York by Tailored Industry. We work with them to create our sweaters through a new manufacturing process called WHOLEGARMENT® 3D-knitting.
We chose Tailored Industry vs. other WHOLEGARMENT® manufacturers in part because of their brand vision. They want to become a platform for on-demand knitwear. We're hoping we can grow together, create all kinds of custom sizes, and eventually remove the need for inventory completely.
No! In fact, you can probably skip the spa after wearing a SeaCell summer sweater because the natural vitamins and minerals of the seaweed will soothe and protect you from harmful free radicals and damaging UV rays.
Yes! Simply machine wash your sweater with the rest of your clothes. It will not shrink on a normal cycle.
